From DanBa we take a minivan to BaMei. The views into the valley stays stunning, so we really enjoy the scenery along the road. In our guesthouse they informed us well how to arrive in TaGong, which makes things much easier.
In BaMei Ilse helps making some dumplings in a local restaurant, while we wait on our own fresh portion… Delicious.

After the meal we take another minivan to TaGong. We arrive in the late afternoon and head immediately to our guesthouse. After a warm welcome, we stroll into town to visit two monasteries. One with an exact replica of the Buddha statue in Lhasa. In that temple we enjoy a couple of other statues and lots of buddhist symbolism. After that monastery we pass 102 prayer wheels, which we give a turn.

The other monastery in TaGong is a less visited one, but gives a more beautiful and specific scenery. Here we walk along the corridor, turning 468 prayer wheels… After that, we climb the hill behind the monastery to get a view over the surrounding area.
In a local store we discover the delicious yak yoghurt… And enjoy a meal in the cosy city.

The next morning we decide to drive further to GanZi, a 7 hour bus trip. We just don’t know when the bus will pass, so we are advised to look for one between 8am and 10am. We’re lucky, at 8:45am the bus passes and we’re on our way.
The scenery along the road is stunning, we pass numerous grass fields and spot a couple of snow capped mountains, we stay almost all day above the tree border. Only the road and many roadworks along it, make it a rough ride. Many locals get sick on the bus and when we arrive in GanZi , we’re also glad to leave the bus. The small cities we crossed along the road like DaoFu and LuHuo are not worth a stop, they look more like dirty and dusty mountain towns, instead of typical Tibetan villages…

Bij het vertrek uit onze Tibetaanse gastfamilie krijgen we nog lekkere eierkoeken als ontbijt. De eigenaar belt een taxi op en we worden op een heel hoffelijke manier naar de stad gebracht waar we een minibus nemen naar TaGong. Alles verloopt heel rustig en correct. Het is leuk dat je hier in China niet constant moet onderhandelen.
TaGong ligt temidden van de graslanden. We gaan opnieuw logeren bij een Tibetaans echtpaar. Heel vriendelijke mensen. Onze kamer ligt op het 3de verdiep en is alleen te bereiken via een HEEEEEEL steile trap. Gelukkig brengt de eigenaar onze bagage naar boven.
Daarna gaan we op verkenning. We stappen naar het klooster en naar een uitzichtpunt. We voelen wel dat we op grote hoogte zijn en nemen onze tijd om te klimmen. ‘s Avonds gaan we 2 groentenschoteltjes eten waar we wederom gewoon in de keuken onze keus maken.
