Met de boot naar Isla del Sol, de bakermat van de Inka- cultuur.
We logeren bij een heel vriendelijk gezin waar we 2euro per persoon betalen. Christine blijft in de kamer om wat te rusten en wij trekken met ons drietjes naar de ruïnes in het Noorden van het eiland.Het is een prachtige wandeling. Het water aan de stranden lijkt wel de Caraïbische zee, zo helder. We zijn getuige van een prachtige zonsondergang. De beelden kunnen wel iets vertellen maar je moet het beleefd hebben om de echte kleurenpracht te kunnen vertellen.

Terug in onze thuisbasis gaan we naar een leuk restaurantje voor het avondmaal. We proeven er de lekkere, WARME, quinoasoep en eten forel en cordon bleu. De gerechten worden geserveerd met veel groentjes. De vrouw des huizes is een creatieve kokkin. Met een prachtige volle maan kruipen we onder de dekens.

De volgende morgen staan we op bij zonsopgang. Dit spektakel zien we vanuit onze kamer boven het Titicaameer. Vandaag gaan Roger en Christine terug naar het Noorden en wij wandelen naar het zuidelijke punt van het eiland. We nemen elk een afzonderlijke boot en zien elkaar terug op een terras in Copacabana. Roger en Christine zijn bij aankomst vol lof over de vrouw des huizes van ons hotelleke op Isla del Sol. Blijkbaar had ze alle bagage met de kruiwagen tot bij de steiger gebracht en had ze zelfs de boot dichter doen komen om haar gasten te laten opstappen. Ze voelden zich echt wel verwend!

En nu op naar de hoofdstad van Bolivia…La Paz.

From Copacabana we take a boat to Isla del Sol, in the lake. This island has always been a ritual place for many ancient cultures. Recently a group of divers has also discovered many artefacts on the bottom of the lake, like a Bolivian Atlantis.
From our location it is a short walk along mesmerising lakeside views to the main sacred site on the island. There lies the famous ‘rock of the puma’, which gives the lake its name. According to Inca creation myths, from this island, the sun and the moon were placed into the heavens.
Nearby we see also a ceremonial table and the labyrinth, one of the most beautiful ancient ruins on the island. From a surrounding summit, we have some stunning views over the lake.

We walk back to town along the ceremonial path, connecting the north and south of the island, parts are even paved like the old Inca roads.
That evening we share dinner in a cosy restaurant and sleep with a lake view.
The next morning we walk along the lakeshore to the south part of the island, where we take a boat back to Copacabana. Before we leave to La Paz, we eat another trout.
On the road to La Paz, we cross the Estrecho de Tiquina, a small street to cross the Titicaca lake. Quite an adventure there. Everyone gets out of the bus, takes a small boat, while the bus gets on another raft…
