Who don’t knows him… The famous Mongol leader who ruled one of the greatest empires the world has known! For our last days in Mongolia, we plan a trip to his birth place, while we pass some monuments of his life along the trail.
The Mongol culture is a nomadic one, so there is only little evidence of his presence.

“Dwars door de graslanden…” Dat was vandaag het geval. We dachten dat we alle gradaties van wegen in Mongolië al hadden gezien… Maar vandaag vroeg ik me toch opnieuw af hoe onze chauffeur zich oriënteert. Op een bepaald moment kon hij de bevroren rivier niet over. Hij rijdt langs enkele kronkels van de waterloop, daarna de heuvel over en daar vindt hij opeens terug een spoor. Wij waren al een tijdje letterlijk het noorden kwijt!!! In de voormiddag gingen we even piepen bij de hotsprings die in de zomer een populaire bestemming zijn. En “hot” zijn ze wel…niet om ons haar nog eens te wassen.
When we leave the Darkhand depression, we have a two day driving trip till we arrive at the Цагаан Нуур. Along the road we cross some smaller mountain passes and sleep one night in a house with an amazing friendly family. We still love it to sleep most of the time with locals, every time we receive excellent food and we can try lots of local produce… The hospitality here stays amazing!

Vanuit Ulaan-Uul trekken we verder door het sneeuwlandschap naar Tsaatannuur. Het dorp heeft zijn naam te danken aan de ligging aan het Tsaatanmeer die op dit moment helemaal dichtgevroren is.
After 18 long hours on the bus, we finally arrive in Тосонцэнгэл. A nice anecdote, the night before the bus stops at a GER and all 17 people simply enter the tent. They immediately spread around and the owners start to prepare dinner… This is something you really have to see to believe it!
