“Kaieteur Falls is a single drop waterfall.” Dit betekent dat het water naar beneden stort zonder onderbroken te worden gedurende 226m.

“Kaieteur Falls is a waterfall on the Potaro River in Kaieteur National Park, central Essequibo Territory, Guyana. It is 226 metres high when measured from its plunge over a sandstone and conglomerate cliff to the first break. While many falls have greater height, few have the combination of height and water volume. The falls are among the most powerful waterfalls in the world with an average flow rate of 663 cubic metres per second. Kaieteur Falls is about four times higher than the Niagara Falls, on the border between Canada and the United States and about twice the height of the Victoria Falls on the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe in Africa.”

Bij ons eerste telefoontje bleken er slechts plaatsen om te vliegen op 3 mei. In Georgetown gingen we het eerste het beste reisbureau binnen en er waren op zaterdag 26 april nog 2 plaatsen. Blijkbaar was er juist een annulatie gebeurd. We hadden weer eens geluk!

Inderdaad…ze zijn FANTASTISCH. Ook de vlucht ernaartoe is één en al avontuur.
Ik mocht co-piloot spelen! Indrukwekkend als de neus van het vliegertje door de wolken boort.

The most important falls of the country… 250m high – 5 times the Niagara – and 110m wide. They are considered one of the greatest waterfalls in the world. And we agree, they look great. Especially when accompanied by a rainbow.
There is not that much to tell, since the pictures speak for themselves.

But even so interesting is the flight to and from the falls… The weather is clear, so we can see the rivers snaking through the jungle, spot mining sites from far above and play co-pilot for the day.
