Crazy Georgetown
In Georgetown we drove straight to Peter’s house, our fall-out base for the next period in Guyana. When we entered his house, he directly introduced us in the city and feeling of Guyana in general. He explained the mining industry, the electricity trouble, the climate of illegality and the places to be.
Guyana runs runs entirely on fuel generators, making energy extremely expensive throughout the country. That makes also that there is no industry in the country, except for the mining… Gold, silver, diamond, bauxite, …
After that we went for a brief introduction in the town. A real Caribbean mix of people greeted us, ranging from black to white with every thinkable taint of brown in between. Most buildings are made of wood, but after one hour we’ve seen all the important buildings in town already.
