The Northernmost Desert…

After two relaxing days in Palomino, we start our trip to the northernmost point of South America, the desert region of the Guajira Peninsula.
We start with a direct bus to 4 Via, where they put us in a taxi to Uribia. From there we get in the back of a pick up, together with 6 other adults, 6 kids, a couple of goats, a drum of water and some food. Along the railroad we drive in a straight line and see the vegetation change gradually… From trees and green, to cactus and low shrub in the sand. At the same time the temperature rises and the humidity drops. We know it for sure, we’re in the desert along the Caribbean Coast.

Parque National Natural de Tayrona

Transfer Caragena-Santa Marta.
We komen terug terecht in een superleuk hotel “The Dreamer”…met zwembad. Ik ga alleen “Quinto de San Pedro Alejandrino” bezoeken. Het is de hacienda waar Simon Bolivar (de bevrijder van Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru en Bolivia) zijn laatste jaren doorbracht en ook verleed. Hij werd slechts 47 jaar.

The Pearl of the Caribbean Coast

In Tabatinga we sleep one more night on the boat… This time in the shelter of the harbour, since we arrived quite late. The only important element here is collecting an exit Brasil stamp. All the locals ask us if we’re not gonna follow the WK soccer, but we friendly pass that offer.
After the police station, it’s the border… Quite a walk and once we’re in Letitia, Colombia we take a scooter to the airport. The only way in and out here is by air.
