Border Crossing

There is that beautiful way to cross a border… A 22 km hike along the no man’s lands. Sure we’ll go that way!

So in El Chalten we take a bus to Lago del Desierto, where a small boat brings us to Punta Norte, the Argentine border at the other side of the lake. A perfect camping spot, so we set up our tent there, with great views over the lake.

Along the glacier fields of Patagonia

When we arrive in El Calafate we search a nice camping spot near the town, go shopping and book a trip to the world famous ‘Perito Moreno Glacier’ for the next morning.
Thereafter we want to visit the flamingo bay at the lake, but along the road we pass a small museum where we spent all our time. A couple of dinosaur skeletons and typical Patagonian history keep our attention for a while. In the meantime we also enjoy the book works of a photographer in Argentina.
In town there are that evening some festivities, we pass along but too loud music and a crowd of people can’t keep our attention for long…

It is indeed the last city of Argentine, but in Chile there are some more ‘last towns’. They even try to steal the title from each other.

Tango in Buenos Aires

In de namiddag gaan we de omgeving van Plaza de Mayo verkennen: La Casa Rosada, La Moneda en la Cathedral met het graf van San Martín. We springen ook even binnen in “Tortoni”, een 120-jarig oude tangobar.
