Animal fun in the NP from South NSW

We leave Shellharbour along the tourist drive into the surrounding hills, picnic near a waterfall and that night we sleep between the birds on a camping in Morton NP.
Being back on the road feels well, however we have to make a couple of changes on our trip. The days are extremely short by now, since we are in the ‘dark weeks’ here down under. Sunset is around 4:45 pm and sunrise around 7:30 am… The first of june winter starts here, so the nights are very cold, ranging between minus 2 and 5 degrees. So our warm sleeping bags are a welcome alternative!

Staying at ‘The ESSES R INN’

We leave Sydney after the reparations of the car… But on our way to Shellharbour the car keeps giving troubles, nonetheless we enjoy the beach views. Especially on the Cliff Bridge near Wollongong. Finally we arrive at Stan and Suzanne’s home. We met them earlier on our trip on the Gibb River Road. By being now near Sydney it is more than time we visit them and upon arrival we get a very warm and friendly welcome!

The Rainforests in Darling Downs (Far South Queensland)

The far South of Queensland – around Dalby and Toowoomba – hide an inland beauty of small patches of rainforest. Part of these patches I intend to discover the next days.
When I leave Dalby, I head straight to a top park in the regio, the Bunya Mountains. This park lies in the Dividing Range some 1000m high. The road into the park is of a stunning beauty! A narrow winding road through lush green forests, some great valleys or green grasslands. Along the road signs warn for the steep climbs or descents – with some slopes up to 20% – but they are no match for Janis, after the dunes in the Simpson Desert…

Outback Queensland

I decide to drive to Toowoomba, near the coast, along a couple of cities that lie inside Outback Queensland.
So next days are counting kilometers. The first leg goes from Birdsville over Betoota – a ghost town since 1997 when the only citizen died – and Windorah to Stonehenge. During this leg, the desert landscape changes in one with lots of trees and water. The kangaroos finally return, lots of cattle, some emoes, brolga’s and a snake under my wheels…
But best of all! Less flies with every mile crossed.
