Mountain Crossing

After that park, we leave the coastal area and head to the Snowy Mountains… The next days we’ll drive through these Australian Alps on our way to Lake Mungo NP.
From Queanbeyan we take the scenic drive through these mountain lands, camping along in the NP. The nights are extremely cold over there, so we are glad to have our sleeping bags and a fire pit on the grounds. The wood fire warms us up during dinner before we climb in our tents.

Animal fun in the NP from South NSW

We leave Shellharbour along the tourist drive into the surrounding hills, picnic near a waterfall and that night we sleep between the birds on a camping in Morton NP.
Being back on the road feels well, however we have to make a couple of changes on our trip. The days are extremely short by now, since we are in the ‘dark weeks’ here down under. Sunset is around 4:45 pm and sunrise around 7:30 am… The first of june winter starts here, so the nights are very cold, ranging between minus 2 and 5 degrees. So our warm sleeping bags are a welcome alternative!

Finally we arrive at Stan and Suzanne’s home. We met them earlier on our trip on the Gibb River Road. By being now near Sydney it is more than time we visit them and upon arrival we get a very warm and friendly welcome!

The Australian Highlands

Dinsdag 27 november2012
